About

Waaargh!!! Did this in a few hours on a Sunday evening using Processing.js.

Add two words to the URL, separated by a hyphen e.g.
http://crayolon.net/minertron/manic-miner. Words of the same length work best and there's an overall character limit of 32 (including both words and hyphen).

Once you're chuffed to bits because you've made it display rude words, why not generate an animated GIF as a souvenir? Try posting it in forums to ridicule people who are trying to make a serious point!

If you don't understand what this is, you're too young. Or too old. But probably too young. And basically just nowhere near cool enough. Stop waving your vile, carefree youth in my face.

Top (and only) Tip: Hardcore Speccy warrior elites should reduce the speed by two clicks to approximate the 320ms flash interval of the original - an eldritch value whispered to me by speccyscene veteran Gasman who declares it to be the right and proper amount of milliseconds.

WTF

Should theoretically work on browsers that support HTML5. Laugh? I nearly soiled myself. Report bugs to @echolevel and I'll have a crack at fixing them!

ToDo/Bugs:

  • Crashes Safari on iOS - hooray! Works fine on Android. Stupid iOS. Some iPhone users report that it works; it doesn't work on my iPod Touch 4G and a mate's iPhone4. I know where the bug is, but it's preposterous and makes no sense. If anybody wants to look at the JS and offer suggestions, search Minertron.pde for 'THIS LINE MAKES SAFARI ON iOS CRASH! WHY>????"?">$<'
  • Not really a bug, but be aware that generating animated gifs seems to take a little while on mobile devices. Having said that, my Galaxy S takes about 20 seconds - that's not too long. But everybody's so impatient these days, have you noticed? Not like having to wait ten minutes for Jet Set bloody Willy to load from tape. Those were the days [etc.]
